WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is a complementary medical practice that entails stimulating certain points on the body, most often with a needle penetrating the skin, to alleviate pain or to help treat various health conditions.

WHAT CONDITIONS DO YOU TREAT?

Chinese medicine can effectively treat or support a wide range of health concerns. Please visit the following pages for a list of commonly treated conditions: general practice, women's issues and sport related injuries.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY VISIT?

At your first visit, we'll discuss your main complaint(s) in depth, in addition to your full health history. The practitioner will examine your tongue and check your pulses to aid in the diagnostic process. You'll then lie on a massage table - either on your back or your stomach, depending on the treatment - the needles will be inserted, and you can relax or take a nap for about 30 minutes. Herbs and other modalities will be incorporated based on your preferences and the nature of your condition.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ?

Every person has a different health history and recovery capacity, so we will recommend a course of treatment that fits your individual condition. Acupuncture is a form of therapy, so you will likely need more than one treatment to alleviate your symptoms. Acute conditions usually require fewer sessions to treat, often 3-5 treatments. Chronic, stubborn ailments will take more time so a typical course of treatment is 6-10 visits.

IS ACUPUNCTURE PAINFUL?

No! The needles usually do not hurt, with the exception of an occasional minor pinching sensation upon insertion. Acupuncture needles are very thin, different than the hollow hypodermic injection needles that are used for giving shots or drawing blood. They are very fine, about the thickness of a cat's whisker. Once the needles are in place you often forget they're there.
